JEE MAIN Examination – A Complete guide

There are two stages for Joint entrance examination. 

  1. JEE Main and 2. JEE Advanced 

Let us explore both JEE Main & JEE Advanced exam one by one. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Main. It is required to be admitted to IITs, GFTIs, IITs, and NITs. Students can seek Admission through JEE Main in:

  1. Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Technology (Paper 1)
  2. Bachelor of Architecture/Bachelor of Planning (Paper 2)

Note: Also, please provide eligibility for the JEE Advanced examination.

JEE Main exam is conducted in 13 languages: English, Bengali, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Assamese, Telugu, Odia, Punjabi, and Tamil. JEE Main Examination is conducted in 2 Phases: January and April

JEE Main Counselling 2025

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) and the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) conduct the counseling process. JOSAA is the primary platform for allocating seats, and CSAB is the secondary platform. It means that CSAB allocates seats after the JOSAA allocation. JOSAA will soon announce the JEE Main 2025 counselling schedule at www.josaa.nic.in.

JOSAA Counselling 2025 for JEE Main

  • Candidates seeking admission in IITs, GFTIs, and NIT + systems must apply to JOSAA counseling.
  • It has 5 or 6 rounds (depending on the vacant seats).
  • Candidates must register on the JEE official website of JOSAA to apply for JOSAA counseling 2025.

Eligibility for JOSAA Counselling 2025

  • Candidates cleared the JEE Main Paper 1 or 2.
  • Candidates acquire minimum marks in class 12 to get admission to various institutes through the IIT-JEE Exam mains.

  • Register on the official website of JOSAA 2025.
  • Candidates must fill out and lock in their choices of desired institutes and courses.
  • Fill choices as much as possible.
  • 1st list of mock allotment.
  • Candidates know the allotted seats based on their preference by the authorities.
  • Candidates change their preferences after mock allotment.

Round 1 Seat Allotment

  • The seat allotment process is initiated according to category, availability, merit, and selected preferences.

  • Pay the fees of seat acceptance.

Round 2 Seat Allotment

  • Round 1 procedure follows for vacant seats.

CSAB Counselling for JEE Main

  • It is conducted to acquire vacant seats after JOSAA counseling.
  • It only has two rounds.
  • Candidates must register on the official website of CSAB to apply for CSAB 2025 counseling.

Eligibility for CSAB Counselling 2025

  • Candidates participating in this counseling must still acquire a seat in JoSAA Counselling.
  • Candidates withdrawing or surrendering the DASA – 2025 seat can participate in this counseling.
  • Candidates whose seats are canceled because they did not pay the SAF or PAF fee after the JOSAA seat allotment can participate in this counseling.
  • Candidates whose seat is canceled due to document verification can participate in this counseling.
  • Candidates who choose the EXIT option in the JOSAA 2025 counseling can participate in this counseling.
  • Candidates who withdraw or surrender their JOSAA—2025 or DASA—2025 seats can participate in this counseling if they have both seats.
  • Candidates who choose “Not to participate in Special Round” are not eligible for this counseling.
  • Candidates who acquire the JOSAA 2025 seat of NIT + System and pay the SAF and PAF fees can participate in this counseling.

Events of CSAB Counselling

  1. Registration, request for category restoration, and fill in the choice
  • Candidates complete the online request for category restoration for vacant seats after JOSAA counseling 2025.
  • Vacancies are displayed after JOSAA rounds.
  • Pay the special round enrollment fee.
  • Fill in the choices as much as possible.
  1. Round 1 Seat Allotment
  • CSAB Round 1 seat allotment JEE exam result displayed.
  • Choose the willingness option such as freeze, slide, float, surrender, withdraw, and exit.
  • Report online and verify the documents.
  1. Round 2 Seat Allotment
  • CSAB Round 2 seat allotment result displayed.
  • Report online and verify the documents.
  1. Physical Reporting
  • Pay the fees and physically report to the institutions.

Willingness terms candidates have to understand

  1. Float: It is an option to maintain or upgrade the assigned seat.
  2. Freeze: It is an option to lock the seat and not participate in the other rounds.
  3. Slide: It is an option for seat acceptance and upgrading seats at the same institution.
  4. Withdraw: It is an option to cancel the accepted seat of an institution and then seek seats of another institution.
  5. Exit: Not to participate in Special Round 2 and does not get set in Special Round 1.

CSAB SFTI Counselling for JEE Main

  • It is conducted to seek admission in 12 Self-financing Technical Institutes (SFTIs).

CSAB NEUT Counselling for JEE Main

  • It is conducted to seek admission in supernumerary seats in NITs of Union Territories.
  • Get a seat in the AICTE-approved institutions of North East & Union Territories.

CSAB Supernumerary Counselling for JEE  Main

  • It is conducted to seek admission in the Union Territories of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar, Daman & Diu, and Khandvi.

Step 1: Register on the official website of the JOSAA/CSAB.

Step 2: Put the application number, security pin, and password.

Step 3: Choose the “I Agree” option, complete the form, and confirm the registration.

Step 4: Choose a college and course.

Step 5: Modify, choose, and amend the choices.

Step 6: Lock the preferences at every round.

Step 7: Confirm the seat allotment and pay the fees.

Step 8: Download the fee receipt.

Step 9: Verify the documents.

Step 10: Report to the designated college.
